State election: Greens reveal transport plan
From BENJAMIN PREISS
The Greens have called for a feasibility study into a light rail network connecting Ballarat railway station with surrounding suburbs in their latest transport plan.
Ballarat West Greens candidate Leon Dwyer launched the policy at the train station yesterday.
The proposed study would assess the possibility of connecting Ballarat railway station to Wendouree station and also to Ballarat West, Alfredton and Delacombe.
Mr Dwyer said it was not known how much the project would cost.
"We don't have a dollar figure, what we are seeking is the political will to get the feasibility study done so that we can see what we're going to get for our investments into the future in Ballarat West," he said.
The Greens' transport policy also includes plans for an independent transport authority, more high speed trains with extra services to Wendouree, Maryborough and Ararat as well as a new bus interchange and car parking at Ballarat railway station.
